General Purpose Ratings

The Duration of the course is 6 months. On successful completion of this course, the candidates will be eligible to join in Indian/Foreign Shipping companies as a Deck/Engine crew. With further sea service, they would be promoted as Motorman/Oil man, Fitter, Deck serang, Able-Bodied Seamen, Bosun. They can also be promoted to officer level with certain service and qualification requirements on passing the examinations conducted by DGS.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidate should qualify a Common Entrance Test (CET) conducted by the Board of Examination for Seafarers (BES) for admission with effect from January 2012 Batch.
  • Age Limit - Not more than 25 years at the time of commencement of the course.
  • Medical Standards- Medically fit as per the standards set by M. S. Medical Examination Rules, 2000. They should have 6/6 in each eye without visual aids and should be free from colour blindness
